My Q & A with The Chesapeake Bay Foundation
Recently I had the privilege of being interviewed by The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, a beautiful venue in my hometown of Annapolis, MD. Beachfront, wooden & metal exterior, eco-friendly – need I say more? This venue gets me. Check out the Q&A below as I answer questions related to my origins as a photographer, my style, and where I find my inspiration!
If you’re engaged and on the search for a venue, the CBF is hosting a Bridal Showcase on Tuesday, August 18th from 6:30 – 9:30PM. Enjoy a fun night on the bay with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, cocktail sampling, music, raffles, and gifts! Hope to see you there!
CBF: Tell us a little bit about how you became a professional photographer.
In college I was actually on a pre-physical therapy track, headed full speed ahead for grad school. As time went on I found myself plodding through the motions without a fire in my belly. I decided to stop wasting time on the stuff that didn’t light me up. I said Self, what gets you most stoked? Do more of it. The answer was wedding photography and I am so grateful I took that leap!
CBF: What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?
I adore meeting people with unique stories, passions, cultures, and perspectives of the world. Weddings are about people, and I find those people to be the most amazing part of being a wedding photographer.
CBF: Describe your photography style.
I best explain my style as creative photojournalism. The most important things to me are real moments, emotions and people. Capturing those moments in an artistic way is what I’m all about.
CBF: If you only had three words to describe your photography style, what would they be?
Organic, relaxed and meaningful.
CBF: What is your favorite type of event to photograph and why?
I am a sucker for outdoor weddings with beautiful florals, earthy décor, and excited guests ready to celebrate with the bride & groom. Throughout the planning process I form a great friendship with my couples so that by the wedding day I am as excited as one of their guests!
CBF: What is the craziest thing that has happened while photographing an event?
Fingers crossed, nothing too crazy has happened yet. But open bars can lead to some funny things :).
CBF: What makes your photography unique from other photographers in the Annapolis area?
Annapolis is home to a wonderful group of photographers. I think what sets me apart is the experience we share together. From the personal care you receive to the laughs we have on your big day together, I’ve put a lot of thought into creating a unique experience for my brides and grooms.
CBF: Where does your brand’s inspiration come from?
I’m a believer in all things honest, simple, and beautiful and I approach my brand the same way. I find these values most reflected in nature so I spend a lot of time outdoors and pull inspiration from it.
CBF: What is the best piece of advice you can give to someone looking for a photographer for an event?
Easy: You need to like them. You need to be able to laugh with your photographer, feel comfortable around them, and simply enjoy their company. Truthfully, you will be with your photographer on your wedding day more than you will be with your mom, your best girlfriend, or your new husband!
Check out a few of my photos of their beautiful venue below:
